A new special LIS course, combining the study of the Italian language with a program of activities on art: we will focus on the Renaissance period, the artistic, literary and philosophical movement born in Florence in the 15th century, which transformed not only the arts and sciences, but also the conception of the world and man.

Duration: 1 week.

Starting dates in 2024: 11 March, 17 June, 11 November.

Linguistic level: participation is reserved for students with at least intermediate level knowledge of Italian ( A2 minimum).
Participants will be given a handout on the course topics, including basic vocabulary covering architecture, sculpture and painting.

An example of the week's schedule*: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: morning Italian language classes in small groups of up to 10 students, divided by levels, from 9:15 am to 1:00 pm. --Activities after language classes: Monday afternoon: Introduction to the course: what the Renaissance was, its origins, how it developed in Italy and Europe, and the historical context of that period. After the introductory seminar at school, going out with the teacher to view some works of great Renaissance artists found here in Lucca (for example, we will see a painting by the famous Florentine painter Domenico Ghirlandaio). Tuesday afternoon: second seminar at school on the Early Renaissance and its three great artists: Brunelleschi, Masaccio and Donatello. Architecture, painting and sculpture: the birth of perspective and the construction of the Dome of Florence Cathedral; the depiction of the real man; sculpture to describe the attitudes and motions of the soul. Wednesday afternoon: third seminar at school on the Second Renaissance: the painter and mathematician Piero della Francesca; the Medici family painter Benozzo Gozzoli; the Della Robbia family, between art and craft. Thursday, all day: field trip to Florence. During the day we will have a chance to visit the places where some of the works of the artists we studied in the previous days are located, and there will also be time to take a walk in the center and learn some interesting facts about the city. Friday afternoon: free.
